SCIF & SECURE FACILITIES

A Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) is a highly secure, restricted area designed to protect Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI), classified information concerning national security requiring special handling for mission-critical operations. SCIFs are constructed with rigorous physical and electronic security measures, such as soundproofing, reinforced walls, and controlled access, ensuring that classified communications and operations are shielded from unauthorized access, eavesdropping, or interception as outlined within Intelligence Directives 705 Technical Specifications & TEMPEST/01-13, RED/BLACK Installation Guidance

In addition to SCIFs, other closed area facilities, like Special Access Facilities (SAPFs), Secure Working Areas (SWAs), or Restricted Access Areas, are used to protect classified information at different levels of sensitivity. These areas are often designed for specific operational needs and are secured by physical barriers, monitored entry points, and access control systems, ensuring that only cleared individuals have access to national security information. SCIFs and other secure areas are critical to maintaining the integrity of classified data and ensuring compliance with government regulations.
